EWG applauds Carper-Braun bill to prioritize climate-smart farming

WASHINGTON – The following is a statement from Scott Faber, Environmental Working Group senior vice president for government affairs, on the CROP for Farming Act introduced today by Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Mike Braun (R-Ind.) to make practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions a bigger priority for USDA’s Conservation Incentive Contracts program.

Our farmers are already feeling the effects of climate change and are already adopting commonsense practices that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build soil carbon and make their farms better able to withstand extreme weather.

The CROP for Farming Act will make these practices a bigger priority for USDA’s biggest working lands conservation program and ensure that USDA supports our farmers when they take steps to combat the climate crisis. EWG applauds Sen. Carper and Sen. Braun for making our farmers and the climate crisis a priority for the farm bill.
