Senate Agriculture Panel Approves Perdue Nomination to USDA

WASHINGTON – Members of the Senate Agriculture Committee voted today in support of former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue to be the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, sending the nomination to the full Senate for consideration.

Here is a statement from EWG Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Scott Faber:

We share many of the concerns raised by Senate Democrats. We hope Mr. Perdue will live up to the commitments he made to Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Chris Van Hollen during his hearing, including his commitment to protect drinking water sources from farm pollution.

We’re confident that Sen. Stabenow will be watching closely to make sure Mr. Perdue serves the interests of taxpayers, rural residents and family farmers – not his own business interests.
