House Bill to Strengthen Federal Personal Care Products Law

EWG Vice President of Government Affairs Scott Faber said that draft cosmetics legislation released today by Reps. Frank Pallone, D-N.J., and Rep. Leonard Lance, R-N.J., will help make regulation of cosmetics and personal care products a Congressional priority.

Scott Faber, EWG Vice President of Government Affairs, said:

Even though Americans of all ages use cosmetics and other personal care products every day, cosmetic companies can add just about anything to their products and have no duty to alert the Food and Drug Administration if their products harm consumers. The FDA has no power to recall dangerous products or even access company records.

The discussion draft released today would finally give the FDA the power to investigate the most dangerous chemicals in cosmetics, to know when cosmetics harm consumers,  and to take action when needed.  EWG looks forward to working with Rep. Pallone and Rep. Lance to ensure the safety of these everyday products.
