Mark Ruffalo, EWG’s Ken Cook Applaud Gov. Cuomo for Bold Action To Protect New Yorkers From PFAS

WASHINGTON – Actor and activist Mark Ruffalo and EWG president Ken Cook today praised New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for taking bold action to reduce PFAS pollution.

“No one is doing more to address the threats posed by PFAS pollution than Gov. Cuomo,” said Ruffalo.

Late last month, Gov. Cuomo worked with state legislators to ban the use of firefighting foam made with PFAS, a major source of PFAS pollution. New York state officials have also proposed tough drinking water standards for PFOA and PFOS, and state legislators are considering legislation to ban PFAS in food packaging.

Ruffalo produced and stars in the film “Dark Waters,” which chronicles the story of attorney Rob Bilott, who uncovers the risks posed by PFAS pollution. EWG’s Ken Cook worked with Bilott to sound the alarm posed by PFAS more than two decades ago.

“We need more leaders like Mark Ruffalo, Rob Bilott and Andrew Cuomo,” said Cook. “New Yorkers should be proud to have leaders who are protecting their communities from PFAS pollution.”

“After decades of inaction by the EPA, it’s up to state leaders like Gov. Cuomo to protect our families from PFAS,” Ruffalo added.

Bilott has recently published his own firsthand account of the epic battle to bring the decades of deception by DuPont and 3M to light in his new book, “Exposure: Poisoned Water, Corporate Greed, and One Lawyer’s Twenty-Year Battle Against Dupont.”
