EWG Statement on House Bill To Increase Anti-Hunger Assistance

The following is a statement from Scott Faber, senior vice president of government affairs for the Environmental Working Group, on House passage of H.R. 8319.

We applaud House leaders for increasing and extending nutrition assistance programs, especially for school children. President Trump’s mismanagement of the Covid-19 pandemic has dramatically increased hunger, especially among children. We are disappointed that House leaders did not also provide food and farm workers threated by Covid-19 with more protections and did not do more to help struggling family farms and restaurants. Although it is critical that no American goes hungry, it is equally important that we protect and support those who keep us fed.
