Fluorinated chemicals known as PFAS have been linked to serious health problems, including cancer, harm to the reproductive system, and harm to the immune system.
So you might be surprised to learn that industrial manufacturers can discharge unlimited amounts of PFAS directly into drinking water supplies.
EWG recently found at least 475 industrial facilities that could be discharging the toxic fluorinated compounds known as PFAS into the water, including chemical companies, rugmakers and electroplating facilities.

Today Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) will offer an amendment to a must-pass defense spending bill that would finally limit PFAS discharges into our drinking water supplies. Pappas’ amendment would also require polluters to treat their discharge before sending wastewater to publicly owned water treatment plants.
More than 100 million Americans may be drinking tap water polluted with PFAS, and industrial discharges are a big source. But so far the Trump Administration has refused to limit PFAS pollution.
That’s why it’s time for Congress to direct the Environmental Protection Agency to finally regulate industrial discharges of PFAS. Today, thanks to Rep. Pappas, Congress will get a chance to do so.
